That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown by Cressida Cowell
The author of That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown is Cressida Cowell. The same Cressida Cowell who wrote the How to Train Your Dragon series. She is an incredibly talented writer.
That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown Plot:
Emily Brown has a stuffed rabbit named Stanley. They are best friends. They go on daily imagined adventures to places like the Sahara Desert, Outer Space, the Great Barrier Reef, and so on.
The Queen is envious of Stanley and wants him for her own. She offers many nice things to try to entice Emily Brown to hand over Stanley, but Emily Brown refuses. When Emily Brown refuses the last time, the Queen takes drastic measures.
Why You Should Read this Story:
The relationship between Emily Brown and Stanley is similar to the Boy and the Velveteen Rabbit, but the story is a completely different take on having a “real toy”.
When the Queen is trying to convince Emily Brown to surrender her rabbit, she sends characters who “rat-a-tat-tat” at the door. It is fun to say “rat-a-tat-tat” and knock on the doors in the illustrations along with the story.
The illustrations combine sketch-type drawings with photography-type art.
That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown is a heartfelt story that never seems to get old.
