I read 31 PICTURE BOOKS ABOUT COOKIES. Here are my top recommendations for you (pictures link to Amazon, downloadable PDF library list below)-
Cookie Picture Book Recommendations-
Cookiesaurus Rex by Amy Dominy. I thought this book was super funny. The statement on the book cover nails it, “A little cookie with a BIG attitude”. Cookiesaurus Rex becomes jealous of the decorations the other cookies are receiving and he demands to be redecorated. When the cookie decorator complies, Cookiesaurus Rex is not impressed. The reader, on the other hand, will laugh at the different designs placed on Mr. Rex.
Chocolate Chippo Hippo by Vincent Adrioni. Hippo LOVES chocolate chip cookies. He loves them so much he has a chocolate chip suit and the only pair of custom chocolate chip sunglasses. This is a simple story but the illustrations are cute and it is a hit with the kids.
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. Classic Story. Cause and effect…if you give a mouse a cookie, he will probably ask for a glass of milk… The scenarios are unlikely and usually unpredictable, but it is predictable that you will like this book.
Who Ate All the Cookie Dough by Karen Beaumont. Momma Kangaroo finds all of the cookie dough has been eaten, but who ate it? She sets out to track down the culprit. I think most kids would like this story, but it is especially fun for the little ones.
The Duckling Gets a Cookie by Mo Willems. Who doesnt LOVE a good Mo Willems story? Duckling has a cookie and Pigeon is jealous. This book brings in references to other Pigeon books, fun for Pigeon book fans. If you havent had a chance to
The Last Chocolate Chip Cookie by Jamie Rix- In this book, the main character’s mom is trying to teach him manners. She has him offer the last cookie to everyone before eating it himself. This book starts out feeling ordinary and takes a big twist. Fun and memorable book.
Cookiebot! by Katie Van Camp- What starts out as a helpful robot invention, turns into city-wide chaos as Harry and his stuffie, Horsie, combine forces to take on their out-of-control Cookie-Grabbing robot. Creative with a super-hero feel.
Snack Attack! by Terry Border- Three snacks worry for their lives after finding a note on the counter. They strategize how to avoid being eaten. The illustrations are photographs with doodles. I found the book unique and humorous, but I would recommend it for older kids (5-8 yr olds), semi-spoiler: not all of the snacks make it in the end. 🙂
Watch the Cookie by Nancy Cote- Mousy and Sam are the best of friends. One day Sam entrusts Mousy with the job of guarding their cookie while he takes care of some business. Guarding the cookie proves to be no easy task but Mousy faces each obstacle bravely. Will he be able to save the cookie in the end? Adorable story about being brave and being a good friend.

Thick Sugar Cookie Recipe with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting – DELICIOUS!
My grandma made sugar cookies right. She had FIVE kids, so this batch makes A LOT of cookies. Here is her recipe:
Soft Roll-Out Cookies Grandma’s sugar cookies. Makes a large batch. Dough must spend time chilling in the fridge so plan ahead. Preheat oven to 375. Ingredients: 3 Eggs 2 Cups Sugar 2 Cups Butter or Margarine 1 Cup Milk 2 tsp Vanilla 1 tsp Baking Soda 1 Tbsp Baking powder 6-7 Cups Flour Directions: Cream together eggs, sugar and butter. Add milk and vanilla. Add baking soda, baking powder and flour. Mixture should be just slightly sticky (if too sticky, add more flour). Chill overnight. Use lots of flour when rolling out. Make cookies thick. Bake at 375 for 8-10 mins. Do not over-bake.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting The recipe my Mom would usually make. We like to tint with Wilton’s gel food colors. Ingredients: 4 Cups Powdered Sugar 1 Stick Butter or Margarine Softened 3 Tbsp Milk 2 tsp Vanilla Directions: Beat sugar, butter, milk and vanilla with electric mixer on low speed until well blended and smooth. If frosting becomes too thick, beat in additional milk by teaspoonfuls until spreading consistency.
