DO NOT CATCH A LEPRECHAUN
By Jamie Bills
BEFORE St. Patrickβs Day, my teacher said, βYou should make a leprechaun trap.β Β BEFORE St. Patrickβs Day, I thought it was a good idea. Β I wish I could go back to BEFORE. Β BEFORE I made the trap. Β BEFORE I caught a leprechaun. Β BEFORE that leprechaun ruined my life. Β Becauseβ¦ Β AFTER I caught him he snored all night and woke me at dawnβ¦ βTOP OF THE MORNING TO YA, LAD!β Β AFTER I caught him he played tricks on me. Β AFTER I caught him he dressed me up like a Leprechaun. Β AFTER I caught him he took over my piggy bankβ¦ and my room. Β AFTER I caught him I was too busy dancing the jig to play video games. Β AFTER I caught him I tried to set him free. Β Take my advice: Do NOT make a leprechaun trap! Β Because you canβt return to BEFOREβ¦ Β AFTER you catch a leprechaun. Β βMORE DANCING LAD!β Β

I love leprechaun stories, and yours is adorable. You definitely proved that catching a leprechaun is not a good idea.
Thank you Debra!
Ha! This is great! I love your creativity and voice. Great job and good luck!
Thank you Amy!
I love the repetition of before and after, Jamie! What a great cautionary tale!
Thank you Jill!
A really fun warning/story for the unsuspecting reader.
Thank you Anjali!
lololololol! This is hysterical, Jamie! I knew you were brilliant the moment I read your burrito pitch. I would have loved to read this story when my kindergarteners made leprechaun traps. So funny and creative. Great luck!
Wow. What kind words about this and my Duck and the Burrito pitch. You made my night. Thanks!
I love this! I can just hear that leprechaun. π
Thanks Maria!
LOL! This is so much fun. I was chuckling the whole time. That ending line is hilarious. Good luck, Jamie!
Thank you! Hahaha- I am glad you like the last line. My girls begged me to take it out…probably so I would stop saying it in my terrible Irish accent…but I kept telling them I thought it was funny. π
Haha! This is hilarious! Love the clever before and after format. Good luck in the contest!
Thank you Karen!
Ha, how cute, what a great voice you have here! Thanks for sharing your work with us for the spring fling Kidlit contest!
Thanks for hosting the contest! I loved the process of finding and writing a story based on a GIF. π
LOL-I’m keeping my distance from that leprechaun. Funny and clever!
Great story! Lesson learned I won’t tell the kids to try to catch a Leprechaun!! LOL! π
Haha- thanks!
Such a cute idea for a story!
Thanks Connie! π
This was great and imaginative! And we all thought leprechauns would bring us nothing but riches. Thanks for setting the record straight!
Good luck in the contest.
Haha- thanks Colleen! Good luck to you too!
Jamie, your writing is always so fun!
Thanks Joyce!
Oh man! Who know my piggy bank was in danger. (Sneaks off to take down leprechaun traps.)
Hehe. You have a very persuasive MC.
Haha. You are funny. Thanks for the encouragement and for hosting such a great contest!
LOVE this!! Hoping it’s on a bookstore shelf soon! Will snag it for my Irish offspring! π
Thank you Aline! It was a fun story to write. π
