Basic Story Line:

The Emperor of China is very good at growing flowers. When it comes time for him to choose a successor, he invites Ping and the other children in the kingdom to the palace where he gives each child a flower seed to grow. The children are instructed to bring their flowers back to Emporer at an appointed time.

Ping tries his very best to grow a beautiful plant, but no matter what he does, he can not get the seed to grow. When it is time he takes his empty pot back to the Emporer. You will have to read the book to find out what happens in the end.

Why I like this Story:

The artwork is beautiful and Ping is a lovable main character, but most of all, it is hands-down my favorite picture book about the importance of being honest.
